Garden Court South Beach in Durban gets R22m revamp

Garden Court South Beach, one of Durban’s landmark beachfront hotels, has undergone a multi-million rand refurbishment, an investment which has revived the 42-year-old property.

“When planning this refurbishment, we focused on breathing new life into the property through modernisation and a fresh look, while still building on the comfort and attention to detail that guests have come to value at the hotel,” says Smith.

This is according to Garden Court South Beach GM, Wayne Smith, who says the R22 million investment has made way for the remodel of the hotel’s public areas, including upgrades to elevators, public bathrooms and the reception area, as well as a R12 million soft refurbishment of its 414 guest rooms.

“When planning this refurbishment, we focused on breathing new life into the property through modernisation and a fresh look, while still building on the comfort and attention to detail that guests have come to value at the hotel,” he says.

As part of the project, the hotel acquired new furniture, artwork, soft furnishings and the addition of further cubicles in the downstairs public bathrooms.

In addition, the revamped rooms now boast 40” televisions, padded headboards and newly upholstered desk chairs.

Smith says the decor and colour palettes are a blend of muted tones reflective of the hotel’s scenic beach location, paired with elements of dark wood, ivory parchment and graphite aluminium.

“The redesign of the rooms was largely beach-inspired, and we wanted the overall feel to translate into a blend of leisure and business,” he says.

Mike Jackson, Tsogo Sun Operations Director KZN, says Garden Court South Beach has earned a reputation for its service excellence, and continued investment ensures that the hotel’s facilities are equally of the highest standard.

“Tsogo Sun is constantly evolving and working to maintain quality hospitality and accommodation. This project reinforces our commitment to investing in Durban as a world-class destination and makes way for the hotel to meet the brand standards of newer properties in the group,” says Jackson.
