Renowned South African architects dhk Architects are a recipient of an award for their work and design of the University of the Western Cape.

The Cape Institute of Architects has paid tribute to dhk’s innovative development of the University of the Western Cape’s (UWC) Life Sciences Building at its main campus in Bellville in the Western Cape.
The property measuring approximately 27 000 square metres is a cutting-edge institutional research laboratory designed to be an iconic embodiment of social and environmental scientific research in Africa.
Intended to place the university on the world map as a centre of teaching excellence, promote inter-departmental and inter-disciplinary research, the building incorporates six departments into a single working and learning environment.

“Our efforts are aimed at creating spaces that reflect contemporary designs that advance conservation and sustainability principles and practices,” he says.
