Upmarket estate homes for nature lovers in Krugersdorp

04 Jun 2016

Ideally located just below the Roodekrans Ridge in Krugersdorp, Featherbrooke Estate is bounded by the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens and a tributary of the Crocodile River, and is a delight for nature lovers despite the fact that it is now almost fully-built.

The average price of freehold homes in Featherbrooke Estate has risen from R1.84 million in 2005 to R3.4 million currently, while that of the sectional title cluster homes and townhouses in the estate has risen from R655 000 in 2005 to R1.28 million currently.

“The estate was established in 2005 and only a handful of the more than 1 000 stands are still vacant,” says Joy Pienaar, the local Rawson Property Group franchisee here.

“However, the estate also contains 27ha of parklands and communal gardens that are now very well established and an absolute haven for scores of bird species and small animals.”

Pienaar says residents can walk, run or cycle around Featherbrooke on 5km of paved pathways - with beautiful dams, waterfalls and wetlands to enjoy along the way as a bonus.

“So it is no surprise that the estate continues to enjoy strong demand among home buyers who love the outdoors, or that home values here have virtually doubled in the past 10 years,” she says.

According to property data company Lightstone, the average price of freehold homes in the estate has risen from R1.84 million in 2005 to R3.4 million currently, while that of the sectional title cluster homes and townhouses in the estate has risen from R655 000 in 2005 to R1.28 million currently.

Pienaar says the figures also show that the number of home sales in Featherbrooke has held steady at around 75 for the past three years, and that more than half (59%) of sales made over the past 12 months have taken place at an average price of R3.2 million.

Featherbrooke Estate is bounded by the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens and a tributary of the Crocodile River, and is a delight for nature lovers despite the fact that it is now almost fully-built.

“What is more, the prices of the freehold homes in the estate that are currently being advertised for sale range all the way up to around R8.5 million and more, while those for the four and five bedroom clusters and townhouses go up to around R4 million.”

Other amenities in Featherbrooke include a large clubhouse with restaurant and conference facilities, a lapa used for outdoor functions, squash and tennis courts, skateboard park and cricket practice nets.

And, says Pienaar, the estate has an enthusiastic sport and recreation committee that organises events throughout the year such as wine tastings, jazz evenings, golf days, fun walks, art nights, karaoke competitions, an Easter-egg hunt and holiday club for school children.

“Featherbrooke is, of course, also very well located in relation to the CBDs of Krugersdorp and Roodepoort, while Johannesburg, Pretoria and Lanseria Airport are easily accessible via the freeway network,” she says.

Amenities in Featherbrooke include a large clubhouse with restaurant and conference facilities, a lapa used for outdoor functions, squash and tennis courts, skateboard park and cricket practice nets.

“There is also a Montessori school in the estate and several good primary and high schools nearby, including Curro Krugersdorp, Muldersdrift Primary, Eagle House, Kings and the Maragon schools.”

Shopping centres within easy reach of the estate include Featherbrooke Village as well as the giant Cradlestone Mall.

“And for keen golfers, there is a selection of top courses in the area including those in the Eagle Canyon, Jakkal Creek and Ruimsig Country estates,” says Pienaar.

Featherbrooke is also close to the Silverstar Casino with its range of entertainment offerings, restaurants, bars and movies, but she says the chief attraction remains the estate’s location alongside the magnificent botanical gardens, offering mountain and valley views from most homes here.
