Khayelitsha estate well under way

03 Oct 2007
Construction of the 10 hectare Thembokwezi Lifestyle Estate in Khayelitsha in the Cape Town metro area is well under way.

This R350m mixed use development, where new homes priced are marketed at prices between R250k and R382k, is situated on Lansdowne Road just 1km from the Swartklip interchange and accessible to major routes such as the N2 and R300.

The residential component comprises a total of 564 one and two-bedroom sectional title units ranging in size from 32sq m to 49sq m and located in double and triple-storey complexes. Construction has already begun on the Old Mutual site and the first show units will be completed at the end of October (2007), when sales will begin.

"This project is the largest development of its kind in the Western Cape and the first security village to be created in a traditional township area," says Dr Andrew Golding, CEO of Pam Golding Properties (PGP).

"Thembokwezi will help address a major demand for homes within the townships, with a resultant shortage of accommodation that has seen a trend towards historical township dwellers and in particular up and coming younger people moving to the suburbs."

Johan Maree, PGP project manager, says the project is aimed at catering mainly for young professionals and government employees, as well as young families and retired people.

"We believe this is an ideal opportunity for the emerging 'black diamond' market to purchase a home in a secure environment, while remaining part of the friendly, vibrant atmosphere of the township. From an investment perspective it's ideal - with a body corporate which will oversee the management and maintenance of the property.

"For families with young children there is peace of mind in knowing they are within a secure environment, while more mature residents have easy accessibility to the numerous facilities conveniently close by."

Within walking distance of the adjacent lifestyle shopping centre and with 4,500sq m of public green space for the use of the greater community, each residential unit incorporates one bathroom, semi-fitted kitchen and an adjacent carport - with visitors parking bays also provided.

The architects have designed the residential complexes around private courtyards with paved terraces and landscaped gardens, ensuring maximum privacy for each unit. Security includes a single access point and guard service.

The adjacent lifestyle centre will include office space, quality shops with top brands, a food court with restaurants and public square.
