The Johannesburg Social Housing Company, or (Joshco), recently launched its housing projects Bellavista New and Citrine Court at Bellavista Estates in Turffontein, in the south of Johannesburg, on 30 June.
Rory Gallocher, the chief executive, gave an overview of the company and its projects, before a corporate video was shown.
Citrine Court consists of 78 large two-bedroom flats and one three-bedroom flat, with separate kitchens and bathrooms, measuring 54sqm. Nearly R23m was spent in revamping the 16-storey building.
"Citrine Court was a spectacular mess and initial discussions were about whether to demolish it, as the condition of the building was so severely degraded that a structural evaluation had to be commissioned to calculate if it could be rehabilitated at all," said Gallocher.
Bellavista New comprises three blocks with 36 two-bedroom units measuring 45sqm.
Applications for occupancy of both buildings will be invited in July from families from the local and surrounding areas who are seeking good quality and well managed rental accommodation.
"It's a very special day for Joshco and just like the football fever saying ‘Feel it, it is here', we say ‘See it, it is visible'," says Citrine Court, Gugu Mkhize, the programme director.
