Get your bathroom 'on trend' with these inspirational mood boards

02 Apr 2019

Every year, for at least four months over the annual transition from one year to the next, design insights and forecasts tend to flood the algorithm-based recommendations for anyone involved in the design space.

As design trends shift year after year, black remains consistent regardless of the era.

Bathroom Butler put together some bathroom design ideas based on these 2019 bathroom design trends that intend to inspire your creativity when renovating or building your bathroom:

1. Tasteful textures

Blending different textures with a bathroom’s tile, wall paint and vanity options is a relatively easy task given the countless options available. However, for a truly textured look try blending natural woods, concrete finishes and suede or velvet finish wall paints or textured wall paper. Add to the composition by opting for furry bath mats or cushions, marble countertops and brushed bronze bathroom accessories.

2. Fabulous feature walls

People underestimate how easy one simple design decision can change the entire look of a space. They tend to be nervous about making decisions outside of their creative comfort zone, yet the age-old idea of keeping a palette neutral and adding colour with soft finishes is still very much relevant in today’s design world, albeit those ‘adding colour’ suggestions being a bit more courageous today than they were in the past (mind you, if you look at some '70s retro-style designs, we would say these were pretty out there).

Don’t be afraid to choose one wall in your bathroom space as the feature wall and get creative with how you can make this space come alive.

Here we’ve included a protea print wallpaper option using large marble tiles and smaller grey and white glass mosaics. We’ve then opted for the polished stainless steel bathroom accessories from the Bathroom Butler 4 800 Series Exclusive Collection and soft furnishings that pick up the colour from the wallpaper to complete the look

3. Keeping it real

Natural wood - whether it be in its original form or as a tile, laminate or print - stands testament to its continued dominance and décor preference in the design world. For this board, we’ve used the 4 600 series brushed stainless steel range of bathroom accessories and played with various wood applications to showcase how easy mixing different types of wood is within almost any design space - two different laminate wood floor options, a dark wood emboss tile, upcycled wood palette accessories and natural, raw wood décor accessories.

Given its natural, earthy properties, any plant type works with wood so ‘go wild’ with these ideas too.

4. The bold and the beautiful

For this board, we’ve thrown caution to the wind and found inspiration in some ‘shwe-shwe’ fabric made in South Africa (although purchased from) with Bathroom Butler’s polished stainless steel 8500 series. This gorgeous, bright blue, pink and lime green combination is perfectly on trend for 2019 as bold, dominant colour schemes, themes and décor palettes take centre stage with design professionals.

5. Black - always a beauty

As design trends shift year after year, black remains consistent regardless of the era. To celebrate its consistency, we’ve used the matt black accessory range with white tiles and included silver finishes as the backdrop to this dramatic colour preference. White marble and shiny tile options help convert this monotone board into an elegant salle de bain.

6. How to ‘live in’ coral

By now, most of you know that Pantone’s colour of 2019 is Living Coral - an awesome colour for any designer that knows what to do with it in a living space, but perhaps more of a challenge for those who find this colour lives in a more daunting place, yet this colour proves a pleasure to work with once you start taking design chances.

We’ve mixed living coral with Bathroom Butler’s Rose Gold accessory range (given the two colours have both been borne from copper and gold undertones), and contrasted these with sunshine yellow, navy blue and olive green - you can’t help but feel like you’re at the beach with this joyful colour combination.
