Fieldspace Property Group has collected 3 200 cans of non-perishable food as well as 210kg of maize meal and 60kg of rice that will be donated to charities around Joburg in celebration of Mandela Day 2017.
After launching the campaign on 12 May, 67 days prior to Mandela Day, the team reached out to all their contacts - tenants, suppliers, contractors as well as friends and family to draw in as many donations as possible. Little by little the donations of canned food and other non-perishables streamed in and the pyramids of cans grew and grew.
Each company that donated, was personally thanked and promoted on the company’s social media pages.
“We chose four charities that are close to the hearts of our team members, all of which are desperate for stock of food for those in need whom they support on a daily basis,” says Scott Field, CEO of Fieldspace Property Group. “Our team’s 67 minutes of volunteering will be spent forming a human chain to carry the cans out of our head office, load them into several vehicles and deliver them to the charities as well as unpack them at the various charities.”
“Madiba has left such an inspiring legacy of giving that we wanted to give our time to an initiative that will go a small way to ending poverty in our local communities,” says Field.
