Delta Property Fund, a specialist black-managed and substantially black-owned REIT with a significant sovereign underpin, has announced the appointment of Shaneel Maharaj as Chief Financial Officer with effect from 1 December 2015.

This is according to Delta CEO, Sandile Nomvete, who says Maharaj holds a B.Com (Hons), B.Com (Acc) as well as an H.Dip Tax and Advanced Certificate in Auditing. He is a seasoned CA (SA) with more than 15 years’ work experience, mostly in a listed company environment.

Maharaj will join Delta from Cargo Carriers Limited where he spent the last six years as Chief Financial Officer, assuming a strategic role in the overall management of the Group and its subsidiary companies within South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Prior to being promoted to Chief Financial Officer, Maharaj was the Group Financial Manager of Cargo Carriers for three years. He completed his articles with Deloitte & Touche in 2001, after which he started his career with Imperial Fleet Services, followed by Cargo Carriers.

“We wish to welcome Shaneel to the executive. He brings a wealth of experience, including an excellent track record of stakeholder engagement and relationship building,” says Nomvete.

He says Maharaj is well versed and has a solid knowledge of listed company reporting requirements including IFRS, King III, Companies Act, JSE Listings Requirements and the Tax Act.

“Maharaj has effectively managed the treasury function and was closely involved in raising finance, achieving results within budget and implementing new systems, and we look forward to working closely with him,” says Nomvete.
