December property auction buys

On 18 December, Rawson Auctions Western Cape will auction two homes and a farm and the auction will take place at 12pm at 222 Main Road in Rondebosch.

The four bedroom home in the exclusive upmarket Soopjeshoogte Nature Reserve, just north of the West Coast fishing village, Lamberts Bay, will be auctioned on 18 December.

The first home is in the exclusive, upmarket Soopjeshoogte Nature Reserve, just north of the West Coast fishing village, Lamberts Bay.

This reserve covers 800 ha and fronts onto the ocean. It was was launched in 2001 with only 30 erven available to the public and these have all been sold at prices ranging roughly from R1 million to R3 million, and eight have now been built on.

All homes have to conform to prescribed architectural guidelines, which specify that they must have a definite West Coast fishing village look, for example, with white plastered walls and black or thatched roofs.

The home for sale now is two years old with four bedrooms, two en suite and one in a self-contained loft flatlet.

According to Michael McPetrie, this home offers uninterrupted panoramic views of the ocean and has a large typical West Coast stoep from which views can be enjoyed.

For those looking to buy a farm, a 6.58 ha smallholding in Piketberg will be sold at the fall of the hammer.

McPetrie points out that the gates to the reserve are kept locked at all times and access to it is strictly limited to erf owners and their friends.

They can fish, walk or mountain bike throughout the 800 ha and there are unlikely to be more than five to ten other people in the reserve at the same time.

“This home brings one as close to nature as is possible to get and buying such a home would not suit the city slicker or the urbanised cosmopolitan, but for those who love the outdoors and especially what the West Coast can offer, this is a rare, once in a lifetime opportunity which should not be missed.”

In Rondebosch, a family home located on Sandown Road is described as exactly what buyers are looking for.

Set on a 661 square metre erf, the four bedroom double storey home features a slate tiled roof and is situated across the road from Bishops Diocesan College and within cycling distance to Rondebosch Boys’ and Rustenburg Girls’ high and junior schools.

Piketberg is a picturesque Western Cape town situated at the foothills of the Piketberg mountains, a range of low mountains interspersed with vineyard farms.

The area is also well-known for its trout streams which are excellent to fly-fish in.

It is 15 kilometres from Piketberg’s town centre with a five bedroom farmhouse with three garages, a separate self-contained flatlet and a large swimming pool.
