CT stadium – it’s R700k a night

31 Jan 2011

Anyone interested in having a high-profile birthday bash, product launch or media extravaganza will be able to do so quite easily by hiring the Cape Town Stadium for a night. It will cost a paltry R700k.

The City of Cape Town has approved the rental tariffs for the stadium and claims to have been inundated with requests to use the facility. According to Brett Herron, mayoral committee member for community services, the interest in in the stadium is “very exciting and encouraging”.

The requests apparently range from major concerts and sporting events to conference, weddings and corporate events. Some of the bookings already lined up include U2, Neil Diamond, Kings of Leon and Bon Jovi.

In terms of the tariff structures, it is possible to hire smaller venues within the stadium itself such as a business lounge on the third floor of the stadium that will cost a mere R21k or one of the suites on the fourth floor that will cost you around R40k.

Herron says that the tariff models do provide some leeway for the city when negotiating with the clients who want to hire a venue.

This freedom of negotiation is aimed at securing the best rental for the event in a way that the costs remain competitive and attractive, claims Herron.
