8 simple DIY home decor ideas for an organised space

These eight super simple DIY home decor ideas will turn your home into an organised oasis using easy-to-find storage solutions.

Rawson Property Group share a few  DIY home decor ideas for an organised space:

Wanna hang out?

Peg boards and wall hooks are the perfect way to clear your countertops or free up the chair-drobe you’ve got going on while also creating a unique focal point in a room. They are perfect for hanging heavy duty items like pots and pans, coats and umbrellas or even accessories and showstopper pieces.

 It’s called shelf-care

Have you run out of cabinet space? Floating shelves are an excellent solution to this problem and an easy DIY. They are simple to install, look modern and you can dress them up to suit your style. Add your most used items for easy accessibility, decorate with a plant or two and watch how it transforms your space.

Everything is under control

If your bed is on feet, use that retail space underneath! Shallow bins with a lid or a basket are great options that can easily slide under the bed for storing linen and towels, bulky items or things you don’t use very often. Another DIY home decor idea would be to construct some draws that can be installed under the bed.

The great divide

Drawer dividers will turn your organised chaos into organised bliss. You can get adjustable dividers that are perfect for your kitchen utensil drawer, honeycomb-shaped ones for your socks and underwear, and individual containers that you can slot into your drawers to add some order. Even repurposing old containers you already have will work well for this and make for a fun decor project!

High five for vertical storage

If you don’t have a lot of floor space, go vertical. You can hang baskets or, if you feel up to a weekend project, make your own shelf with brackets and planks of plywood (tip: get your local hardware store to cut the wood for you!) and you’ll have an easy DIY wall decor option in no time.

 A-mason organisation

Take your dried ingredients out of their awkward packaging and use mason jars with lids, clear plastic containers and open baskets instead. Not only will it turn your pantry into a decor dream – especially when you label everything – it’ll also allow you to see when you are running low on certain items. Open baskets are great for grab-and-go items or ingredients you use often.

A-door your cupboards

Don’t clutter your fridge with shopping lists… use the inside of a cupboard instead! It’s an easy DIY decor project – all you need to do is give the door a good coat of chalk paint. This is particularly perfect for pantry or laundry cupboards, as you’ll be able to write down what you need as soon as you see it getting low.

Double duty

One way of minimising mess is by making sure some of your appliances and furniture have more than one purpose. A sleeper couch, for example, can be both a bed and a seat. But what about turning your headboard into storage? You can easily DIY a headboard so that you can use it to stack books or some of your favourite items. Another easy home DIY hack is using the outside of your fridge for magnetic shelves or hooks.

Home-Dzine suggests that if you are living in a rental home where the bathroom isn't exactly something you want visitors to see, then it is time to clean and organise the room for a better bathroom aesthetic.

There are many bathrooms out there, particularly in rental homes, that leaves much to be desired. Decorated in contractor's white bathroom fittings and with boring white tiles on the walls, added to that the fact that you're not sure how to make it look better or how to clean the grout, stained toilet, and mouldy shower curtain, and you have a bathroom that nobody wants to see, much less use.

This is not a situation that you want to live with, even if it is a rental home. We're not talking about spending a fortune on goodies to make the room look better rather, we look at items that you can purchase at any Crazy store or online at takealot.co.za. Both offer a wide selection of affordable items that can be used to corral clutter and give any bathroom a refreshed look.

Wired Up and Contained

Clutter is what makes most bathrooms look messy and dirty. Something as simple as wire or plastic baskets cost very little yet do so much for controlling clutter that usually lies around the room and on countertops. A couple of inexpensive wire or plastic baskets

You don't need to be a woodworker or expert DIY enthusiast to make something as basic as simple storage for under a sink or over a toilet and it will provide plenty of essential storage for bathroom essentials.

Make It

No one renting a home wants to have to buy expensive furniture for a bathroom if it is fitted, but if you make it fit and don't fix it to the walls then you can take it with you when you leave. For example, make a storage unit that fits under the sink or over the toilet, one that stands on its own and you can always take with you when you move. Not only that but making a basic storage unit will cost a fraction of what it would cost to buy a readymade unit. Laminated PAR pine is available in different lengths and widths, and you only need a jigsaw to cut everything to size for assembly.
