Ballito in KZN has always been a popular holiday destination and from January to July 2022 attracted over 271 000 visitors (Information courtesy of Ilembe Enterprise) with recorded bed nights in this same 6-month period being 910 365. Of this 71% was holiday accommodation.
Ian Naidu of Local Real Estate, says the starting price for a Zimbali property that is perfect for vacations and short-term rentals, like the Zimbali Suites, is R2.79m, or about R7m for a starter standalone home in Zimbali Estate.

Karoo property in high demand
The region, according to Flip Augustyn of Seeff Calvinia, has 80% starlight and provides the best Karoo living.
For between R500 000 and R1.5m, you can still find lovely homes here, while farms typically sell for between R1.5m and R20m.
Karoo currently has *30 new property listings, according to Property24 Trends Data, with an average asking price of R1.4m and an average selling price of R700,000.
Buyers looking to relocate to Oudtshoorn are currently in high demand, according to Jan Verlinde, licensee for Seeff Oudtshoorn. In the past two years, "between 20% and 25% of our buyers have been from large cities, primarily Cape Town and Johannesburg."
Tranquility in the Karoo for R2.950m
Property prices in Oudtshoorn are also lower compared to those in bigger cities and towns. A large three-bedroom home in the Johannesburg can be found for between R1.6m and R2.5m, while a standalone house can be found for around R1.2m, and for the same price, you can have a 3-bedroom home with a swimming pool in Oudtshoorn.
