AfrAsia Bank and New World Wealth recently reviewed the top residential estates worldwide as part of their 2019 Global Wealth Migration Review.

Residential estates are a growing segment in the high-net-worth market and their popularity is attributed to the security an estate affords, activities offered from golf to skiing and horse riding, the lifestyle and sense of community, and limited and controlled traffic.

Andrew Amoils, head of research at New World Wealth, says the list excludes South African estates, but “notable SA estates that could also make this list include the likes of Fancourt, Val de Vie, Zimbali, Pezula, and Steyn City”.

Amoils notes that residential estates can be tricky to define. “The easiest ones to define are golf estates and countries with large numbers of golf estates include Portugal, Spain, South Africa and the USA (mainly the Florida area).”

Estates are also becoming increasingly popular in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), New Zealand, Mauritius, Mexico and the United Kingdom, he says.
