Seeff upskills licensees, managers and agents

20 May 2015

Seeff have recently completed a Senior Development Management Programme (SMDP) through the University of Stellenbosch’s highly respected Executive Education Division (USB-Ed), with all participants having passed with flying colours, and more than 10% of the group passing with distinction.

“While it is a requirement that all of our licensees are in possession of an NQF5, this programme goes a step further by elevating the participants to an educational level.”

The group of learners comprising 82 Seeff branch owners (licensees), managers and agents were lauded for their achievement at the company’s recent annual convention at five-star Fairmont Zimbali resort in Ballito, KZN, during a graduation ceremony that was officiated by the USB-Ed.

Ronel Bornman, head of Seeff’s National training division (the Seeff ‘SMART Academy’) says the successful completion of this programme not only confirms Seeff’s commitment to real estate, but also the managers’ and directors’ enthusiasm to equip themselves with the best possible qualifications. The group of learners comprising 82 Seeff branch owners (licensees), managers and agents were lauded for their achievement at the company’s recent annual convention at five-star Fairmont Zimbali resort in Ballito, KZN, during a graduation ceremony that was officiated by the USB-Ed.

Bornman says this SMDP was offered at the same level as an NQF7 qualification (an MBA is a NQF9 qualification) and that she is pleased with the outcome. She says these certificates will not only enrich the lives of Seeff’s licensees and managers, but also the experiences of the company’s clientele in the various branches over the African continent.

“While it is a requirement that all of our licensees are in possession of an NQF5, this programme goes a step further by elevating the participants to an educational level.”

Although the programme was academic, she says the modules were customised for the real estate industry and also comprised of practical elements consequently allowing participants to expand their business acumen, skills and knowledge.

Paul Kruger, Seeff’s licensee and Managing Director in Potchefstroom, who is also in possession of an MBA degree, says he was highly impressed with the standard and content of the programme.

“I believe that by completing this programme, the Seeff group now has some of the best trained individuals in the industry. The programme created a very strong foundation from which the group can continue to build their future strategies.”

Kruger says it is crucial to constantly invest in a company’s intellectual capital, especially in a highly competitive industry like real estate. He says ongoing training at all levels within an organisation is essential to remain competitive, and it results in better work relations, employee morale, service delivery and improved productivity.

The next step for Seeff’s managers and directors is an Advanced Leadership Programme through USB-Ed, which will be offered on an NQF level 8.

The programme is due to start during the second half of 2015, and 62 licensees and managers will embark on this programme that includes subjects such as innovation, performance management, market research, commercial negotiations, strategic thinking and leadership.

According to Ted Frazer, Seeff's National Marketing Manager, who also achieved the ‘Top Student’ award, having attained the highest individual marks in the group, the course created an ideal environment to cultivate ‘out the box’ thinking among learners, and encouraged thought leadership among licensees.

Samuel Seeff, Chairman of Seeff, says he was positive about the SMDP programme and how the resultant upskilling of licensees, managers and agents in the group would have a positive impact in the marketplace.
