Sandton City Diamond Walk dazzles at its launch

15 May 2015

Sandton City’s new Diamond Walk officially launched on Wednesday night, 13 May 2015 in a brilliant celebration of one of Africa’s definitive luxury and super-luxury retail destination.

Sandton City’s Diamond Walk can be found in a new mall where Sandton City’s upper level links with the Sandton Sun and InterContinental Johannesburg Sandton Towers hotels, and was crafted in a R185 million redevelopment project to fashion a setting befitting of the world’s most coveted luxury retail brands, with all the glamour of world class shopping.

This is according to Thabo Dloti, CEO of Liberty Group, who says a star-studded line-up of local celebrities and sporting, media and business personalities turned out in style to see the Diamond Walk at Sandton City.

Set under the glittering 150 metre long handmade chandelier that lights up virtually the entire length of the new ultra luxury shopping walk, the celebration was hosted by Sandton City co-owners, Liberty Group and Pareto Limited.

This walk is the chic setting of the world’s most coveted luxury retail. The launch of Sandton City Diamond Walk was wrapped in the cast of its brands: Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Ermenegildo Zegna, Billionaire Italian Couture, Jimmy Choo, Tod’s, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Arque Champagne Crescent.

As part of the Liberty’s premium property portfolio, Sandton City has created and built wealth for many South Africans and Liberty policyholders since it first opened in 1973, says Dloti.

“Liberty has a long track record of delivering performance from our property portfolio. We create and invest in property ventures that make a statement and make a difference in people’s lives.”

Sandton City has always been considered the crown-jewel in their property portfolio, he says. “Now, with the foresight and expertise of our asset manager Stanlib, which is also the developer of the Diamond Walk, Sandton City’s status as the prime luxury retail location in sub-Saharan Africa has been strongly reinforced.”

Marius Muller, CEO of Pareto Limited, says Pareto is committed to furthering all facets of retail in South Africa, giving people wonderful new shopping experiences and creating opportunities for retailers to reach new markets and new heights.

Sandton City’s new Diamond Walk adds another luxurious dimension to the ultimate shopping variety and experience on the continent.

Sandton City, enhanced with its new Diamond Walk, is a great asset for its shoppers, retailers and investors, he says.

“The distinction of the new luxury retail on Diamond Walk has created a compelling attraction that adds more glitz, glamour and greater variety to South Africa’s ultimate shopping experience. Sandton City continues to be a star performer in Pareto’s growing portfolio of retail assets.”
