Get your own farmstead in Vredenburg

27 Dec 2005
Considered the business nerve centre of the West Coast, Vredenburg is usually also regarded as a springboard to other coastal towns - but now there is a growing demand for stands and smallholdings and residential homes in the immediate area.

So says Reg van Selm of Nationlink Projects, which has the sole mandate to market a new "farmstead estate" offering 200 smallholdings of 2,5ha each. These will be sold for approximately R450 000 once the subdivision approval has been granted.

Aptly named Centre Point Farmsteads, the estate will be located between Vredenburg, Saldanha, Langebaan and Jacobsbaai, and besides offering buyers good value for money, will have architectural guidelines based on the typical West Coast building style to protect home values.

"These guidelines will provide a building framework for buyers, who will need to incorporate certain elements such as white walls, pitched roofs, stable doors and gable ends in home's design," Van Selm says.

The release of plots on the estate is likely to be phased according to market response and Van Selm notes that the existing buildings on the site will be retained and used as a base from which to market the "farmsteads".

The economy of Vredenburg - or "town of peace" in Dutch - is based on agriculture as the town enjoys access to a spring of fresh water on portions of the farms Heuningklip and Witteklip.
