Book for intern estate agent training in Port Elizabeth 26-27 Feb

12 Feb 2019

Since the promulgation of regulation 633 as an amendment to the current Estate Agency Affairs Act 112 of 1976 and effective from July 2008, many property practitioners have been undergoing learning to meet the education requirements of this regulation.

“There are numerous ‘career interns’ that have been registered as interns for longer than two years," says Salma le Roux. "In a direct question to the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB), it was confirmed they will shortly begin to clamp down on the interns who have not complied with the education regulations.”

Salma le Roux, co-owner and trainer at ISiKolo School of Learning, an accredited real estate training provider, says Interns or new entrants to the property industry need to meet certain criteria before they obtain their full agent status. “They have to operate under the active supervision of a mentor until they obtain their full status. Hence it is in their interest to complete their studies as soon as possible.”

The idea behind the internship training programme was to ensure that interns receive theoretical and practical knowledge about a complicated industry, says Le Roux.

Therefore, interns should attend facilitated formal training sessions to obtain their FETC: NQF4 Real Estate qualification. However, due to distance, she says many of the interns delay the commencement of the qualification as most training providers are situated in the larger cities.

“This is not in the interest of the general public nor the career of the property practitioner,” says Le Roux. “There are numerous ‘career interns’ that have been registered as interns for longer than two years. In a direct question to the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB), it was confirmed they will shortly begin to clamp down on the interns who have not complied with the education regulations.”

She says they have identified that areas such as Kimberley, Upington, Mossel Bay and the Eastern Cape are often neglected as they are not regarded as ‘money spinning areas’.

“However, when your core competency is real estate training, you take the training to the people,” she says, and as part of their 2019 initiative iSiKolo will effectively start full intern training programmes specifically focused on the needs of interns in the Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas.

An “impartial” venue has been identified and principals are encouraged to enrol their interns in the intern training programme. iSiKolo will offer the full qualification, as well as logbook compilation workshops and PDE4 preparatory courses. These classes will commence at the end of February.

ISikolo also intend to roll out NQF5 qualifications soon.

In Mossel Bay and surrounds, the first intake of 2019 students have started their qualification and in March a second group will begin.

For more information on the training offered in Port Elizabeth and surrounds on 26-27 February, as well as Mossel Bay, contact the marketing director, Nantes le Roux on 082 533 1707 or via email.
