Worcester is a town in the Western Cape, South Africa.

Farmers were the first to settle in the region and when it became necessary to build a settlement, their land had to be acquired. The streets were laid out and the first plots were sold in 1820. One of the first buildings to emerge was the local drostdy (magistracy), which was one of the finest Cape buildings in South Africa. Today it is part of the Drostdy Technical High School.
Wine farming and wine tasting is the main hub of activity in Worcester as the district is the largest wine producing area in South Africa. 27 Wine cellars and 2 brandy cellars on the Worcester Wine Route. The Brandy Route, near Worcester, is host to KWV - the world's largest brandy cellar.
The Karoo National Botanical Gardens feature the natural vegetation of the semi-arid areas surrounding Worcester, elegantly landscaped. Here you can explore the 154ha display of fauna and flora from the arid winter rainfall regions of Southern Africa.
Kleinplasie is Worcester's agricultural show ground. The Kleinplasie Living Open-air Museum shows the lifestyle of the earlier agricultural community. Each building represents a particular agricultural sector in the Western Cape during the period between 1690 and 1900. In and around these buildings, a variety of home and agricultural industries are being demonstrated to the public, just as they have been done in those years.

Worcester is very proud of its Institute for the Blind. It is the oldest organization of its kind in South Africa. There is also the Institute for the Deaf. Both institutes offer support and a better way of life to the visually and aurally impaired, and happily allow visitors to see how the blind and deaf are trained and helped.
