Dynamism and professionalism are the founding ideals upon which the firm was established in March 1963 under the proprietorship of Mr Kader Hassim, also known as A K Essack. As a result of Mr Hassim’s conviction of High Treason by instruments of the apartheid government he was incarcerated on Robben Island for a period of eight years together with the other pioneers of the new South Africa. Based on this foundation, from its very inception, the firm has stood for and actively advocated and strove for the establishment of a non-racial democracy and the abolition of all discriminatory laws.
In 1971 Mr Morgan Naidoo took over the reigns and assumed control of the firm as sole proprietor maintaining the principles that the firm stood for. In keeping with these ideals Mr Naidoo was also a founding member of one of the first non-racial lawyers bodies which was formed in 1983 and of which he served as a Chairman from 1992 until its dissolution in 1996.
In keeping with the firm’s consistent growth Mr Naidoo took on 2 partners in 2002 who faithfully uphold the principles of the firm. Over the decades the firm has transformed from a small “one Attorney” firm to one of the largest firms of black attorneys in Pietermaritzburg, if not in the whole of Kwazulu-Natal, offering a vast melange of legal services and solutions to a wide diversity of clientele both within and out of Pietermaritzburg and Kwazulu-Natal.
