The Pavilion, a R150 million 8 000 square metre Bredasdorp retail centre is reportedly 97 percent let with many big national brand tenants.
The Pavilion appeals to the more discerning shopper with a strong local flavour.
The centre was brought on stream by the joint venture of Asrin Property Developers and Harry Viljoen Properties in mid 2009.
Shiraz Onia, Asrin’s construction director, says the reaction of the local community has been very positive from the outset.
“Thousands of shoppers visit The Pavilion on weekends assuring that an expansion of the centre with more national chain tenants would be welcome.”
Onia says they plan to extend next year.
He says the centre’s success is based on the fact that the nearest comparable range and variety of modern national outlets is found at Somerset West.
Even Caledon has no retail centre with anything like the sophistication offered at The Pavilion.
The centre appeals to the more discerning shopper with a strong local flavour.
Two silo type towers in true Overberg tradition set the tone and provide attractive office and retail space and shaded walkways protect all the shop fronts.
Leading tenants in the complex are Checkers (and Checkers Liquor), Village Mart (a general dealer which aimed at farming communities), Clicks, The Crazy Store, Markhams, Totalsports, Foschini, Tekkie Town and Sheet Street.
On the food side the centre has Spur, Wimpy, a Chicken franchise, coffee shops and a biltong shop. All have been in operation successfully since the opening of the complex.
The latest tenants to be signed on are SA Multi Loans and a book shop.
The centre has adequate parking for 600 cars in the basement and on grade parking as well.
