Using neutral shades in your home

Neutral colours have a timeless sophistication and there are many styles you can create by adding bold splashes of rich chocolate brown and deep gold, or you can go for a more subtle look with tone-on-tone taupe, and then add pattern and texture via fabrics and accessories.

Although neutral colours seem drab and old, they actually make it easier to decorate your home using bold statement colours as they make great back drops for walls.

Make a seating area in front of a window eye catching by framing the seats with long, clean coloured curtains. Add a dark wood side table illuminated by a lamp in the same colour as the room walls to complete the look.

Adding the right accessories to a room setting will give dimension to the neutral hues in your spaces. Whatever neutral shade you choose, be it taupe, cream or grey, using colours from the same family adds a level of depth to the room. Incorporate this principle to select paint colours for walls, trims, furnishings and accessories.

The easiest way to choose colours for your home is to use the Plascon Inspired Colour System. This colour tool allows you to select a single colour option and offers unlimited possibilities. The Plascon Inspired Colour System was designed to help you create the perfect colour scheme for your home.

There used to be a time when grey was considered dull and boring, but today, grey is anything but. Shades of grey allow endless possibilities for decorating a home.

Adding a splash of bold, striking colour can set of the tone of neutral colours in a room and add a bit of style.

Tip: It is easy to create style with neutral colours by adding a bold, bright splash of colour to catch the eye, like adding a blood red cushion to a grey couch.

An all-white bathroom can feel sterile and unwelcome. Adding calm neutral shades on walls and ‘in’ accessories can add some warmth. Walls painted in Plascon Double Velvet- Resplendent adds a touch of softness to an all-white bathroom. Add some coloured accessories and a pot plant to bring a fresh look into the room.

Less can be more when choosing colour for home decorating. A soothing backdrop of warm greys and white provide a sense of sophisticated calm, while touches of red provide impact. Selecting a colourful accent allows you to change the look in a moment to match your mood.
