The SA total income for the accommodation industry for the three months ended October 2011 increased by 7.0% compared to the same period in 2010.

According to data on Tourist Accommodation released by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), the total income for the accommodation industry increased by 8.8 percent in October 2011.

The report revealed that income from accommodation for the three months ended October 2011 increased by 6.1 percent compared with the three months ended October 2010.

This increase was due to an increase of 2.2 percent in the number of stay unit nights sold and an increase of 3.8 percent in the average income per stay unit night sold.

Income from accommodation increased by 8.5% compared with the same period in October 2010.

The number of stay units available for the three months ended October 2011 decreased by 1.7 percent compared with the three months ended October 2010.

The number of stay unit nights sold in October 2011 increased by 6.5 percent compared to the same period in October 2010, according to the report.  – Denise Mhlanga
