With the holiday season approaching, the time for family dinners around the table has come. In-laws and long lost family members come from all over to have lunches and dinners, so why not wow them with a unique table setting?
It doesn’t have to be something fancy and you don’t have to break the bank for it. Simple, yet elegant table settings are all the rage, and can be laid indoors or outdoors, depending upon the weather. These table settings can be achieved with a few items that you might already have, or can be purchased affordably.
Indoors or outdoors, a rustic table setting looks stunning.
Bronzed lantern votives placed down the centre of the table provide enough lighting outdoors, or up the ambience indoors and coir or rope table mats are easy to make and you can shape them any way you want.
You can add glass vases wrapped with rope or twine and fill them with fresh flowers to add some colour to the table.
To add a festive feel to the table, you can add a few moss-topiary Christmas trees as an alternative to lanterns, and ambience can be created by adding tapered candles in some simple silver candle holders. If you have a few old books that are falling apart, and you have replaced them, they can be recycled to create a wonderfully interesting tablecloth - definitely a conversation piece.
Tip: You can carry through the recycled book theme by fashioning napkin holders from paper cut into Christmas tree shapes.
For smaller table settings, add a splash of colour with ceramic vases of different sizes.
It doesn't even matter if they are chipped or not the same. Once they are filled with fresh flowers, these will instantly revitalise a table. With no details left unfinished, wine bottles can be wrapped in linen bags, with a stenciled design to add a unique twist.
Don't think that you have to go out and buy new garden furniture just to invite friends round. Even a plain garden bench set can be dressed for outdoor entertaining. You can use succulents and flowers as a textural centerpiece to decorate the table, and sawn-off logs are great as placemats, adding to the rustic feel.
You can also use a piece of reclaimed timber as a table runner for a simple white table setting perfect for a breakfast or brunch with friends.
