The conference is a result of the Joburg Concierge Forum which was founded in 2010 aimed at guest relations managers and concierges from 4 Star and 5 Star Hotels in Johannesburg and surrounding areas to share ideas, keep up to date with the latest industry trends and discover the attractions and activities in and around Johannesburg that can assist them in creating the unforgettable experiences guests expect.
According to Deon Prinsloo, head concierge and Les Clef d’Or member for The Palazzo Hotel at Montecasino, Fourways, says the forum and the conference continues to enjoy support from the sector and other sponsor partners.
What’s more, he points out that the organisation has been sustainable for the past four years.
Prinsloo explains that the Joburg Forum aims to promote Johannesburg as a tourist destination and not just a business stopover and with sponsors such as SAB World of Beer, visitors to Johannesburg get to see the hotels they stay at and also get a chance to explore other places of interest and attractions.
Furthermore, he says they hope to establish South Africa’s own Les Clef d’Or Chapter and host the World Conference in 2018 (1000 Attendees from 40 Countries).
There has been an increase in the number of SA Les Clefs D’Or Members in the past four years from various hotels in support of the movement, and they include Deon Prinsloo (The Palazzo Fourways), Ronnie Govender (Sandton Sun), Claude-Francois Ndala (Beverly Hills Hotel Umhlanga), Lizelle De Haas (The Maslow Sandton), Palvi Oddone Aquino (SunCoast Hotel & Towers Durban), Vinny Maharaj (The Palace of The Lost City Sun City Resort), Archie Christodoulides (Michelangelo Hotel Sandton), Billy Chetty (Da Vinci Hotel & Suites Sandton) and Ryan Van Zyl (The Table Bay Hotel Cape Town).
Prinsloo points out that they now only need two members in order to apply for South Africa to have an independent chapter for the Les Clefs D’Or with the ultimate goal of hosting the World Conference in 2018 or soon thereafter.
Prinsloo, who remains passionate and committed to the work he and his colleagues do, initiated, set up and hosted all three past conferences and says this one promises to be even better and bigger than the past three.
“The annual Concierge Conference serves to create an awareness of the value of concierge services offered by hotels to ensure guests enjoy an unforgettable experience,” notes Prinsloo.
The concierge is a direct link between guests and service providers, providing exposure for the many products and services available around the country, whilst enhancing the guest experience, he says.
As such, the conference also provides an opportunity for some of these providers to exhibit their offerings of interest to guests staying at hotels in and around Johannesburg and to briefly introduce their activities to the attendees, he says.
