A piece of land situated in Lydenburg in the heart of the scenic Highlands of Mpumlanga is to be auctioned early in November. The property has the potential to be developed as an exclusive trout farm, game farm or as housing for the rapidly growing platinum mining industry.

Currently used as an exclusive weekend getaway and for trout fishing, the property is 1121 hectares in total, and subdivided into three plots of 550, 528 and 45 hectares. This makes it possible for it to be sold either as one property or piecemeal, says Paddy Smuts of Pam Golding Commercial Auctions.

The property has a river running through it and an abundance of water with plenty of weirs. It is situated in picturesque countryside at the foot of the mountains, bordering the town of Lydenburg, which is experiencing burgeoning growth, and is 40 kilometres from the platinum mine, which with its rapid expansion is experiencing a high demand for housing. The road to the Kruger National Park is close by, there is direct access to the Long Tom Pass road between Lydenburg and Sabie, and the property is just three hours from Johannesburg.

The land is occupied by an old, restored farmhouse which overlooks the river and comprises four bedrooms, four bathrooms, living room, kitchen, scullery, laundry and store room, while a farm manager's house includes three bedrooms, bathroom, living room and kitchen. There are also staff quarters, and all the buildings are well maintained and in good condition.

Says Smuts: "This property is on the route to the lowveld, frequented by professional hunters. Any expansion of Lydenburg will tend to be on the side of the town leading towards this property, because it is situated near the town dam - another positive factor for sound investment potential."

The auction will be held on Saturday 4 November at 12 noon at the Belfast Royal Hotel Conference Centre, corner of Vermooten and Duggan Streets, Belfast.
