Value for money coupled with sound investment potential and some of the best beaches on the east coast have resulted in significantly increased investment in residential property on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast, says Jason Wilkes, joint area principal of Pam Golding Properties' office in Scottburgh, just 25 minutes' drive from Durban International Airport.
"This is coupled with the fact that the price of homes on the KZN north coast have increased dramatically in recent years. For example, residential property selling between R7 000 and R10 000 per square metre on the south coast currently costs in excess of R25 000 per square metre on the north coast. This is a clear indication of the value for money - and also sound investment potential - of property on the south coast," says Wilkes.
At the new Seahorse sectional title development in Scottburgh, 27 luxury apartments are available which epitomise the ultimate in luxury lock-up-and-go accommodation. Avant-garde and unique in design, all units will enjoy sweeping sea views over the scenic Scottburgh main beach, north to Umkomaas and south to Park Rynie. The three bedroom (all en suite) apartments vary from 136 to 179 square metres with three four-bedroom (all en suite) penthouses of 300sqm each. Prices range from R1.6 million to R3.5 million for the penthouse apartments. Currently only eight of the apartments are still available.
All the apartments have wrap-around balconies for outdoor entertainment, while a flowing open plan design living area capitalises on the views from all areas of the home. The apartments feature top class finishes and appliances and ducted air conditioning. There is secure basement parking with lift access to all five floors, while a swimming pool completes the ultra luxurious development.
Says Wilkes: "The Seahorse project offers all the luxury of comparable apartments on the north coast, at a fraction of the cost and within an area which is not congested. In addition to its great beaches, there are four championship golf courses within a 10km radius plus world-class scuba diving, fishing and numerous other leisure activities."
At the Forest View Estate, just five minutes' drive from the Scottburgh town centre are 21 select homes on a spacious site 19 000 sqm in extent, set among ancient indigenous trees, with breaker and inland forest views.
Comments Wilkes: "Due to strict environmental considerations and view options the number of homes available is limited to just 21 attractive 'New England' style homes with weather proof shuttered exteriors and quality interior finishes, designed to blend into the scenic and well established woodland surrounds. The freehold homes vary in size from 185-250sqm, with six designs to cater for both permanent and holiday residents. All the homes have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, double garages and spacious grounds, with the emphasis on stylish, open plan beach living - without sacrificing privacy and top-class security. Prices range from R1.6 million to R2.1 million.
In addition, at Emoyeni Ridge, sectional title homes are marketed in the exclusive upmarket Clansthal area approximately five kilometres north of Scottburgh. Seven units of approximately 300 sqm are still available on a wooded site overlooking Clansthal bay and Greenpoint. These top of the range homes are priced at approximately R2.5 million. Wilkes says if these homes were situated on a similar location on the north coast, they would sell for in excess of R5 million. "Historically, Clansthal has been the select enclave of the most prestigious and sought after properties on the upper south coast," says Wilkes.
