A new lifestyle estate is being developed on the fringes of Villiersdorp in the Western Cape, just half an hour’s drive from Franschhoek.
Villiersdorp Mountain Estate lies at the foot of the Cape Fold mountains, close to the expansive Theewaterskloof Dam, the fifth largest dam in the country.
The town is known as the ‘Pearl of the Overberg’, owing to its tranquil setting in the heart of apple country, surrounded by the Cape Fold mountains.

Stand prices range from R349 000 up to R395 000, inclusive of VAT, and so far 13 of the 51 plots have been sold.

The estate, says Pam Golding Properties (PGP) Project Director for the development, Louise Varga, will be “ideal for full-time residents, particularly families, as it is within walking distance of the local primary and high schools”.
“Being close to the dam, it is also ideal for those seeking family holiday homes – other activities within the near vicinity include golf, hiking, quad-biking and horse-riding, so there is something for every level of fitness.”
Varga says the estate will make an excellent home for retirees. Forty one-bedroomed units are to be built above the planned lifestyle centre with this market in mind, including access to 24-hour nursing care. The centre itself will offer facilities for yoga, bridge and other activities, as well as an indoor swimming pool. Membership is included in the purchase price.
Buyers will have 24 months from the date of transfer to complete the building of their homes, which must be in line with the estate’s architectural guidelines. The prevailing style is described as “Cape French Provencal” - a modern interpretation of the existing Villiersdorp vernacular.
Homes will be well spaced out within the estate, and limited to two stories in height, so as not to block any views of the mountains and the dam. Natural colours, pergolas and awnings are encouraged, as well as indigenous landscaping of gardens, with a minimum of two trees per stand. No invasive or alien exotic vegetation will be allowed anywhere on the estate.
