Investec Property has completed the refurbishment of Makro’s distribution centre in Midrand adding 11 000 square metres of warehousing space.
The site is located off Allandale Road, with easy access onto the N1 Pretoria, M1 Johannesburg, R21 Kempton Park and N3 Durban Motorways.
The expansion of the existing premises from 16 000 square metres to 27 000 square metres commenced in November 2011 and was completed in July when the building was handed over for beneficial occupation.
Makro was able to keep the facility fully operational during the extension and refurbishment of the facility without any interruption to their day-to-day activities.
Makro spent several weeks installing the necessary racking into the facility for it to be fully operational by the end of August.
Improvements to the site, facilitated through the expansion, included the installation of a new roof over the entire premises as well as an upgrade to the fire control systems and sprinklers in the premises.
Commenting on the handover of the modernised facility, Masswarehouse commercial director Doug Jones says: “the extension to the Makro distribution centre has gone extremely well and has progressed on time and within budget. – as we expected when we partnered with Investec Property on the project.”
He says they have been particularly pleased to have been able to continue to operate from the facility during the building operations.
“Investec Property has handled the various challenges in a professional, disciplined manner and we are delighted with the new facility.”
