Renowned for its peaceful rural atmosphere, Kommejtie residents are comfortable with living at their own pace.
The village is situated on the western side of the Cape Peninsula and is synonymous with ocean views and a relaxed lifestyle, says Susan Watts, General Manager of RE/MAX Living, whose office services the Cape’s Atlantic Seaboard.
She says the village has no aspirations of becoming a busy business centre and the relaxed holiday atmosphere is what has drawn so many of the residents to the area. The area celebrated its centenary in 2003, however, this only really marks when the first house was built in Kommetjie.
The area was regarded as a holiday destination for a long time and while a lot of development has happened in the region and more properties have been built over the last hundred years, the village has maintained its original charm and character, says Watts. "Although a large number of the houses are still holiday homes, many residents have fallen in love with the village and have chosen to make it their permanent home.”
Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, says many property buyers in South Africa are choosing to purchase homes in areas that offer unique lifestyle options. Ocean fronting and facing properties are among the most sought-after and often achieve good investment results in the long term.
Watts says along with the growing number of permanent residents in the area, property in Kommejtie has become more sought-after. One specific property known as Graced by the Sea - a beachfront house with panoramic views of the Cape Peninsular - has particular prominence. It was built and owned by a well-known adventurer and is being marketed by RE/MAX Living for the price of R25 million.
This magnificent beach house is in a prime position situated in the promontory. One can sit on the veranda and hear the waves crashing. The house is set on a double stand of 1107 square metres, with more than 400 square metres under the roof. It has five bedrooms and solid yellow wood flooring throughout, teak counters, a triple garage as well as a lavish sized outdoor pool and entertainment area.
“If you are looking for a secure, private estate with ample room to entertain your friends and family while enjoying the relaxed lifestyle that Kommejtie has to offer, then this is your dream property,” says Watts.
