Established in December 2011, the Kgodisa Training Academy, which was the first to provide SETA-accredited training for the recently introduced Facilities and Property Management diploma - an NQF level 4 qualification, is set to offer additional courses providing training for the property industry.
This is according to Thea Bezuidenhout, director of Kgodisa, who says their aim is to be a fully-fledged training academy primarily focused on the development of human resources in the property industry in South Africa.
Having received a positive response to the launch of Kgodisa, which is part of Excellerate Property Service, and the Facilities and Property Management diploma at NQF4 level, this year they will be launching additional courses for Cleaning and Hygiene at NQF1 and NQF2 level.
Bezuidenhout says the demand for the above courses is not only from those already involved in the property industry who are seeking to further their careers and achieve personal growth, but also from a broad cross-section of people from various backgrounds who are seeking to enter the industry.
She says it’s gratifying that this year Kgodisa has an intake which, among others, includes six delegates who have received sponsorship for the Facilities and Property Management diploma from companies within the property industry.
She says Kgodisa Training Academy has sponsored Patrick Mataranyika, whose passion is to become qualified and excel in the property industry, while JHI Properties - which is also a member of Excellerate Property Services - has sponsored Eshara Naidoo, who is employed as a lease administrator at JHI Properties in KwaZulu-Natal.
A further four students, Samuel Lephuting, Celia Mhlala, Robert Wilson and Richard Felisberto, have been sponsored by Fortress Income Fund, she says.
“The delegates are highly motivated and enthusiastic about having the opportunity to enter and further themselves in the property industry. Samuel Lephuting, who was raised at Rhema Children’s Village in Johannesburg after his mother passed away, understands the value of hard work and aims to develop himself so he can be independent and in addition, help others in his community.”
Bezuidenhout says he also wants to own his own home in order to secure his future and Celia Mohlala, who has worked as a store merchandiser, wants to get a degree and learn more about the property business, with a view to a management position.
She says Robert Wilson’s goal is to be a successful property broker, while Richard Felisberto not only aspires to a career in property, he also wants to run a non-profit organisation to give back to his community.
While completing the NQF4 qualification in Facilities and Property Management, Patrick Mataranyika (sponsored by Kgodisa) and the other four delegates (sponsored by Fortress Income Fund) are receiving invaluable, practical experience as learners in the various companies within Excellerate Property Services.
In addition, Kgodisa Training Academy has arranged for three of the delegates (who require accommodation) to stay in student accommodation buildings which are managed by JHI Residential on behalf of International Housing Solutions. This accommodation is paid for their sponsor, Fortress Income Fund.
