Just Letting Student, a division of Just Property Group, will manage accommodation for Varsity College students from January for the 2013 academic year, providing a fully-fledged, professional rental service.
This will include checking and grading all existing accommodation used by the college’s students at both campuses, as well as helping nearby residents who want to rent out rooms, homes, granny flats and garden cottages.
Tim Dunstan-Smith, Varsity College National Facilities Manager, says 400 to 500 students who attend Varsity College at the Westville and Durban North campuses need accommodation and their concern is the welfare of their students. "It will be reassuring to know that their accommodation needs are being well catered for and professionally managed so that they can concentrate on their studies without distraction.”
Mark van As, Special Projects Manager for Just Property Group, says apart from making sure Varsity College students are suitably housed, there are also several advantages for potential landlords.
”Our RentSecure service is a unique product that guarantees the Landlord’s rental income in the event of the tenant defaulting on rental payments – providing peace of mind for property owners.”
They have completed the setting up of their systems and established accommodation criteria for Durban, and have started the process of making accommodation available on their website for Varsity College students for next year's intake, van As says.
He says landlords who want to accredit their accommodation for the Varsity College Westville and Durban North campuses must contact the Durban Just Letting Student.
The parents of matric students who need accommodation when they sign up for Varsity College next year, are able to log onto the Just Letting Student web site and see details of what is available, along with the costs.
“Our efforts are currently focused on ensuring sufficient accommodation is available for the students to be able to choose options based on safety and security, length of lease, geographic location and affordability," says van As and adds that in the long term, they would like to include large units of accommodation, such as blocks of flats, as there is a growing need for accommodation within walking distance of campus.
He says once the Just Letting Student offering is up and running in Durban, they will try expanding it out on a national basis, toother major centres where Varsity College has campuses.
