Khayelitsha residents were treated to a rare sight last week when a property in this densely populated township was auctioned off in front of an enthusiastic crowd of bidders and curious onlookers.
Auctioneer, Ron Shaked took slightly longer than usual to explain the conditions of sale and the auction process to the crowd, many of whom were attending their first auction.
Not generally an area where auctions take place, this was an unusual occurrence but one that might prove to be a more regular sight in the future
Bidbank Group, chief executive officer Leno de Villiers says they decided there was no reason why an auction could not work in the area and so they stuck up some boards in both English and IsiXhosa and waited to see what would happen.
“A good crowd turned out, we had five bidders and many more curious neighbours watching.”
The highest bid received was R185 000 without commission and the auctioneers are confident of closing the deal.

“It was exciting conducting an auction in this area for the first time and educating people about the auction process.
“We actually picked up three more properties to sell in the area and look forward to conducting many more auctions here,” he says.
