Welgevonden game reserve consists of 65 farms of 500 ha each, all within a single giant enclosure, embracing an internationally declared biosphere area with one of the world's richest varieties of plant life.
Owners in Welgevonden include many of South Africa's foremost corporate entities, syndicates and private leaders in commerce and industry, making it arguably the most exclusive, up-market piece of real estate in South Africa. One influential private owner alone has reportedly invested over R300m in Welgevonden, an indication of the healthy R11,5m the lodge achieved on auction.
The lodge has been renamed 'Martial Heights Game Lodge' by the new owners, and comprises a thatched "out of Africa" freehold lodge, five chalets and ancillaries sharing a watering hole.
The lodge and ancillaries have been further upgraded to provide world class accommodation and exclusive conference facilities, as part of the consortium's business plan.
South African professional golf star Wayne Westner has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Martial Heights Game Lodge.
The consortium will provide a mix of golf games at various well known golf courses and coaching sessions at Westner's golf academy in Johannesburg.
A joint venture has been agreed upon with a well known neighbouring hunting farm for the adventurer tourist providing for game viewing, hunting and various other safari activities in SA. It will add to the overall experience, and be billed as the 'Wayne Westner Africa Golf Safari.'
A major target market will be the international golfing community and it's understood that Westner will network with other leading golf personalities. America, Europe, Ireland and Japan will be specific target markets.
"There's no doubt that this acquisition is a fantastic investment and business opportunity for the consortium, who have now invested in the most sought after game reserve in SA," says Kobus Kleyn of Master Financial - financial planner and advisor to Wayne Westner and the consortium.
"All the dynamics and scope for synergistic value are in place to put the property firmly on the map as a major, highly exclusive tourist destination".
