A new retirement and care centre in Greyton is drawing discerning buyers, thanks to very competitive prices and a full range of services.

Named Mizpa, the development has 20 two-bedroom cottages, a separate communal dining room, a clubhouse and a bowling green, an infirmary and a frail care centre with qualified nursing staff always on duty.

The compact, 54 square metre assisted-living cottages offer two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchenette, living room, and private patio surrounded by gardens and paved pathways.

Prices range from R540 000 to R599 000 and Riaan Smuts, owner of the RealNet Overberg franchise, which is marketing the development, says this represents excellent value when compared to other retirement options in the Western Cape.

"People who sell their units in the more expensive Cape retirement complexes can afford to buy a unit in Mizpa for cash, while interest on the rest of their yield is usually enough to cover monthly levies,” he says.

Smuts says it would be difficult to put a price on the peaceful lifestyle in Greyton, in the heart of the Overberg.

Greyton is about a 25 minute drive from Caledon and about an hour's drive from Somerset West.

Smuts says an attractive feature of the Mizpa development is that buyers of any age may buy a cottage to provide for their retirement years. However, residents must be 55 years old or older.

Levies for assisted-living residents cover two meals a day, weekly cleaning of units, laundry and round-the-clock medical assistance.

Medical care is available in residents' homes and in more serious cases, residents can be admitted to one of the two private single rooms in the infirmary for full nursing care.

Four single rooms and two double rooms, each with an en suite bathroom, are available for frail care residents requiring full-time care and supervision. The unit is geared for residents with physical or mental frailties.

Services include three meals per day, cleaning of rooms and weekly laundry. Frail care residents have a separate lounge and dining room that overlook a tranquil garden.
