Rumour has it that the controversial Green Paper has been approved by Cabinet, but it’s still not on Parliament’s discussion list, says the Democratic Alliance (DA).
“There are rumours that the Green Paper has been approved, as it appears on the list of matter and documents approved by Cabinet,” says Anette Steyn, the DA spokesperson for land affairs.
Uncertainty over discussion
Steyn says she isn’t sure when the policy will be discussed in Parliament. “It isn’t on Parliament’s discussion list. The inclusion of such a policy on the discussion list can take three days, or even weeks.”
According to Steyn it isn’t strange for a policy to take long to get listed. “The Minister can even hold the document back if he wants to possibly still make some changes,” she explains.
The document focuses, among other things, on restrictions relating to individual land ownership and the existing willing buyer/willing seller principle. – Alanai Janeke, Landbouweekblad
