Government has called on beneficiaries of its Human Settlements programme to desist from selling their government-subsidised RDP houses.
Government Communication and Information Systems chief executive officer Jimmy Manyi said the practice was illegal.
This follows simmering tensions between residents and foreigners in Alexandra township in Johannesburg after a group calling themselves the Alexandra Bonafides gave foreign nationals a week's notice to vacate the RDP houses in Extensions 7 and 10.
Manyi said government condemned these threats saying it would not tolerate any form of violence.
"Government will not be held to ransom by vigilante activities and will bring the full might of security and justice system against those found conducting or partnering in these activities," he said.
He said government had noted the progress on engagements between government and civil society organisations regarding the matter and added that beneficiaries of RDP houses should not be selling these homes. - BuaNews
