The neo-gothic style old Apostolic Church located in Anderson Street in Goodwood, Cape Town was sold prior to auction for just over R1 million.
Tanya Jovanovski of Rawson Auctions Western Cape franchisee says the two erven cover 990 square metres in all and the site is very convenient for anyone in Goodwood and is within easy travel distance of Bellville and the CBD.
It is understood that it has been bought by another church, which means that the building will continue to be used as a place of worship.
Included in the sale is seating for 330 people.
The building has a lobby/foyer area, a stage, a kitchen and is widely regarded as one of the better examples of the neo-Gothic styles, which flourished in the early years of the 20th century in Cape Town.
Jovanovski says that churches with low attendance and struggling to survive can often sell their buildings at very good prices because other churches are looking to expand.
“We would very much like to hear from any church considering scaling down or moving to another area and therefore contemplating selling their buildings.”
She adds that they have potential church buyers in the wings looking for new opportunities.
