Njala Lodge at Mkhuze, KZN, will be auctioned on Friday 23 June. The farm forms part of the 23,000h Rhino Reserve and has direct access from the N2. It caters for game hunting and offers accommodation facilities.

Situated 80km south of Pongola, 45 km north of Hluhluwe and 130 km from Richards Bay, the property is 10 km from Mkuze airport which was built by the SADF and has a 3km runway.

The current owner Gippie Pretorius bought the farm NONELE from the state in 1958 and the adjacent farm ELGIN from Emily Nortje. Since then Pretorius has upgraded the farm in terms of infrastructure, roads, residential homes, and the lodge. Game was introduced to the farm in 1980.

More recently, black and white rhinos - both protected species - were introduced as breeding stock and have produced two calves. It was decided in the interest of the wild life stock to relocate the cattle to the Marble Hall area. The reserve now boasts a wide variety of wild game.

The farm buildings include 3 houses that together can accommodate more than 20 people. The lodge sleeps 44 and has a dining room and pub. Negotiations are under way with fuel distributors to create a truck stop, and there is a truckers' tuck shop on the N2. Outbuildings include slaughtering facilities and a cold room, dipping facilities, animal pens and holding facilities.

Water is supplied by 6 boreholes, five reservoirs and four earth dams, and 3-phase electricity is installed. There are no land claims pending on the property.
