River Front stands at a 168-stand residential development to be built in the north-eastern Free State town of Frankfort have now come on to the market.

Phil Medlock, area principal for Pam Golding Properties (PGP), marketers of the new project, Willow Meander, says Frankfort is currently experiencing an overall revival, coupled with significant growth in the property market with property prices over the past year rising in excess of 30%.

He says the demand for homes in the new development is expected to be mainly from buyers within the community and surrounding areas as well as city dwellers seeking a weekend or retirement investment in a safe, country environment.

"This new development is an extension of Frankfort, located right on the river bank, with 168 fully serviced full title stands ranging in size from 1,000sq m to 1,500sq m and priced between R195k and R300k - the latter for a river facing stand.

The development of extension 24 came about when a developer from the East Rand approached the municipality to purchase the land, which is part of the upmarket area of the town. An agreement was reached and the new suburb created, including two large business stands which will cater for business opportunities such as shops, restaurants, doctors' rooms and the like," says Medlock.

"Work on clearing of the land has commenced and service installation, as well as the construction of a show house, will begin in January 2008. This suburb will have a fixed architectural theme with house sizes starting at 100sq m for a single-storey home to 200sq m for a double-storey house.

"These homes are ideal for those who wish to retire to the country at an affordable price, especially as one could purchase a plot and a 100sqm home for around R600k," he says.

The river front comprises vast areas of open space ideal for fishing, picnicking or just taking in the beauty of the Wilge River as it meanders through the peaceful town of Frankfort. Attractions in the surrounding areas include game farms and lion breeding projects to fishing for the "big yellows" (Yellow Fish) in the Wilge River.

The marketing of Willow Meander estate commenced in the beginning of December (2007), with transfers anticipated towards the end of 2008.
