Exclusive game lodge on auction

A prime private game lodge property located in what is described as the most prestigious game reserve in South Africa will go under the hammer in a couple of weeks.

Situated in "big five" country in the malaria free Waterberg area outside Vaalwater in the Limpopo Province, four hours drive on provincial roads and an hour's flying time from Johannesburg, Welgevonden Private Game Reserve consists of 65 farms of 500ha each, all within a single giant enclosure embracing an internationally declared biosphere area with one of the world's richest varieties of plant life.

Owners in Welgevonden include many of South Africa's foremost corporates, syndicates and leading private South African and expat captains of commerce and industry, making this possibly the most exclusive, up-market piece of real estate in South Africa. One influential private owner has invested over R300-million in Welgevonden to date.

The Welgevonden reserve with its temperate savannah climate borders on the state owned Marakele National Park and SA National Parks is removing all the fencing between the two parks to create an even larger, single reserve of
120 000ha, effectively doubling the game population in the process.

Welgevondon is well watered with rivers, streams and dams and has 420kms of good gravel roads and two landing strips. Hunting is not permitted in the reserve and access is restricted to owners and a limited number of guests.

To be auctioned is the 500ha site 59, a thatched "out of Africa" freehold property with its own game watering hole known as Duikerhoek, with opulent buildings and gardens spread over several ha of natural habitat.

There is a main reception area, offices, bar, large open-plan dining room, spacious lounge with feature fireplace, a conference/billiards room, managers house, a number of executive chalets, garages and staff accommodation, a natural rock swimming pool, boma area and more. Finishes in the lodge are up market including imported tiles, bathroom fittings, custom made teak furniture, etc.

The market for Duikerhoek has been identified as corporates, syndicates, leisure groups and high net worth individuals.

The owner of Duikerhoek is a reputable property developer who has had an association with South Africa for 30 years.

"This auction presents the investor with an opportunity to acquire a portion of one of the most sought after game reserves in the country. All the dynamics and the scope for a synergistic "value add" are in place," says Dr Bertie Saunderson of Park Village Auctions.

The auction takes place on site at private lodge no 59, Duikerhoek farm 225, commencing at 10.30am. Viewing is possible the preceding day, (Friday November 10) from 11am to 3pm. A refundable registration fee of R25 000.00 is payable upfront to view and to bid at the auction.
