The construction of a shopping and office development in Cape Town's Green Point is on track before its scheduled opening in October.
The Cape Quarter Extension (CQE) is the latest addition to the Cape Quarter development in the De Waterkant District of Green Point.
CQE consists of over 10,000sq m of retail space (more than 100 retail stores and restaurants) and 8,700sqm of office space. The accounting firm Deloitte has already taken approximately 5,000sqm and will move its head office into the heart of this area.
CQE is a lifestyle centre that has at its heart unique entrepreneurial businesses.
"Our tenants are all individual, independent retailers and restaurants, each with a unique character that fits the building," says developer Bob Knight.
"Only one store is part of a chain and that is the Spar Gourmet Food Store."
Cape Quarter Property Company has used the old industrial buildings, warehouses and service yards that encompassed the block of Somerset Rd, Dixon, Jarvis and Napier Streets to create the new CQE.
On Somerset Road, old brick walls give historic feature to the street level shops. The Gourmet Spar is the anchor tenant with 1,600 sq m devoted to gourmet foods. A quick park 'n shop area has been created on the corner of Somerset and Napier.
Four restaurants will spill on to the Piazza.
There are more shops above and below the Piazza, with each level having its own specific design niche. Eight escalators and lifts facilitate easy movement around the centre.
