According to estate agent Les Wilsenagh, the southern suburbs of Johannesburg provide excellent access to all the main bus routes into the city, are close to amenities such as schools, crèches and shops are have read access to the highway network.

“With the average selling price of just over R500k, repayments on a bond are about R5k and this means that a joint household income of about R17k is required to purchase a property in these suburbs,” says Wilsenagh.

He says that for the price buyers will get an average home comprising at least three bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, lounge and garage.

“Houses in the old Johannesburg southern suburbs represent really excellent value for money, particularly those that have been properly maintained over the years,” Wilsenagh says.
