Athlone and Ottery homes selling well

The convenient position of Athlone and Ottery in relation to the city, the Ottery and Wynberg suburban railway stations, its bus services and the main freeways is one of the factors that make these Western Cape suburbs desirable.

This house in Ottery offers three bedrooms and two living areas. It is on the market for R710 000 through Rawson Properties.

This is according to Andrea Lovell, co-owner of Rawson Properties Athlone and Ottery, who says the franchises almost doubled their sales in 2012 from 2011.

She says the presence of popular, well-established schools like Turfhall Primary in Penlyn Estate, Fernwood and Battswood Primary in Ottery, which consistently achieve good results are what attract buyers to the area.

“The good retail and entertainment facilities including the large Ottery Hypermarket and Makro store, the strong community spirit generated by active mosques, churches and sports organisations in the area and the continued affordability of homes in the area are also contributing factors.”

Discussing this last factor, Lovell says almost any home priced realistically in Athlone and Ottery, in the R450 000 to R1.3 million bracket, will sell within four weeks – sometimes, in fact, far quicker.

The increasing demand for homes in the area, most of which are freestanding, is further emphasised by the fact that the franchise was able to up its sales to an average of seven or eight per month in 2012, compared to an average of four in 2011.

In mid-December last year, the franchise had already achieved nine sales for the month.

What is more, Lovell says, these sales are being achieved across the board - it is not only the cheaper homes that go fast. She says she sees this situation continuing throughout 2013.

Buyers in Ottery today, she says, are coming from all over the Western Cape with representatives from all of South Africa’s race groups.

Looking ahead, Lovell predicts that the five to eight percent price increases achieved last year will continue in 2013.
