Total income for the accommodation industry increased by 5.2 percent in Q4 2012 compared with Q4 2011, according to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).
Stats SA says the main contributor to the y/y increase of 7.6 percent in income from accommodation in December 2012 was ‘other’ accommodation (15.1 percent and contributing 4.5 percentage points), followed by guest-houses and guest-farms (30.5 percent and contributing 1.8 percentage points)
Stats SA reveals that the total income for the accommodation industry increased by 6.3 percent year-on-year (y/y) in December 2012.
According to Stats SA, income from accommodation increased by 8.1 percent in Q4 2012 and this increase was due to an increase of 1.1 percent in the number of stay unit nights sold and an increase of 6.9 percent in the average income per stay unit night sold while income from accommodation increased by 7.6 percent y/y in December 2012.
The number of stay units available increased by 1.9 percent in Q4 2012 and the number of stay units available increased by 2.1 percent y/y in December 2012.
Data shows that the number of stay unit nights sold increased by 1.1 percent in Q4 2012 while the number of stay unit nights sold increased by 3.0 percent y/y.
The main contributors to the y/y increase of 8.1 percent in income from accommodation in Q4 2012 were ‘other’ accommodation (13.8 percent and contributing 3.7 percentage points) and hotels (5.4 percent and contributing 3.5 percentage points).
