If you are stumped on what to get your mother, who has loved you through all these years, despite your many faults and the fights you have had, look no further than your own home.
Pamper her with a 'spa kit' filled with bubble bath, home-made soaps, fizzies and a set of scented candles.
There are many random items lying around the house that you can transform into a heartfelt present and here are a few ideas to get you started...
If your mom likes to pamper and indulge, you can't go wrong with the traditional homemade body scrubs, soaps and bath fizzies. They are easy to make and all you need is what you have in the kitchen. Wrap them in a cute box or basket, or make a 'Spa kit' for her special day.
Create a 'survival kit' to get her through a bad day during the week. Your survival kit can contain things like wet wipes or tissues, a nail kit, lip balm and hair bands, a comb, compact mirror, her favourite shade of lipstick and of course, her favourite chocolate. Store them in a cute bag or make your own.
If nothing makes your mother happier than a warm cup of tea, why not put an assortment of teas in a personalised box. There are so many on the market, it won't be hard to find a variety of flavours. Simply label each type of tea bag and place them in a decorated box or jar. You can add cute accessories such as a personalised mug or tea strainer for more old fashioned moms.
Baked goods are always a treat and nothing says 'I love you' more than a bouquet of freshly baked cake pops. They're the rage in the baking world these days so the tray will be easy to find. Bake your pops, decorate them however you want and then stick them into a block of brightly wrapped polystyrene.
For the technology savvy mom, a cell phone pouch is a great way to make sure her phone is always on hand and well protected. You can make these out of a variety of material and sew a personal message or your mom's initials on the front.
Mother's Day is about appreciating how much love and effort your mother put into raising you, so make her feel special by giving her a heartfelt gift.
Remind your mom of all the good times as a family by making a set of coasters with family photos sealed on the front. A great idea would be to create a mini timeline, with each coaster representing a different phase of her life, such as her wedding day, the birth of her first child and grandchild and so on. These make a touching, practical gift that she will no doubt show off to her friends.
Photographs make the best presents as they remind a person of happy times. Use old photos of yourself growing up with your mom and make a black and white collage for her to display on her wall.
If your mom loves candles, put family photos on a set of scented candles and tie them together with a ribbon. These look great placed next to a vase of fresh flowers and put a new spin on a traditional family portrait.
When all else fails, pop out to the shop and buy a set of plain glasses and a box of glass paint. You can use these to make a unique set of hand painted tumblers your mom can use on special occasions.
Spending an obscene amount of money on a gift doesn't make it better, most of the time the best gifts are hand-made and come straight from the heart. – Victoria Taylor
